The Maribor Pohorje will host the majority of sports; namely alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross country (sprint) ad ski jumping. The organisers showed them the tracks, existing and planned accommodation facilities, multi-purpose sports hall, the snow stadium and other technical structures needed for executing the Universiade. |

After organising three European University Championships, this was the first World University Championship organised in Slovenia. 153 students from 24 countries came to Maribor to fight for the titles of champions. The most successful were the students from China, who won most of the medals. |

Prior to that, the proposal already got support of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, the Government of the Republic Slovenia, the Olympic Committee of Slovenia, the City Council of Maribor, the Slovenian Student Union and all the Slovenian Universities. The day after the decision of the Parliament, the Slovenian University Sports Association officially informed the International University Sports Federation (FISU) on bidding for the organisation of the 2011 World University Winter Games. |
