Mascot

The mascot of the 2013 Winter Universiade is the owl, which lives in Slovenian forests, parks and even in towns and residential areas. The owl represents knowledge and intelligence. Its flight is silent and elegant. Since the time of ancient Greek civilisation the owl has been a symbol of wisdom, education and academic institutions. It stands for intellectual curiosity and innovativeness.

The 2013 Winter Universiade Owl is positive, dynamic and forward-looking. It embodies the spirit of youth, curiosity, and the search for new adventures.

The owl, as a nocturnal bird, also suggests that the Universiade does not end at sunset: this is when socialising begins. The 2013 Winter Universiade with the Owl as its mascot is not only a venue for sports events, but also an opportunity to meet new people from various cultures and countries.

Logotype

The logotype of the Winter Universiade Maribor 2013 consists of 5 connected arrows making up a whole. The arrows stand for development, dynamicity and forward orientation. They are depicted in the five colours of the Universiade, representing the five continents, and joined together to symbolise unity and togetherness. The arrows also form the letter U – for Universiade, University, Unite, Unique, Youth, You ... All this is expressed in the fresh, immediate and intuitive international language of text messages and emails of youngsters.

The logotype also has the form of a gentle snowflake, as the Winter Universiade is unimaginable without snow.

The 2013 Winter Universiade logotype thus expresses the general spirit of the Universiade as well as of the city where the events will take place: vivacity, togetherness, youth, harmony and cooperation. Young people from all over the world will gather and create the future together. The general idea is captured in the slogan U are the future.

Slogan

The sentence  communicates the determination and commitment of all those participating in the 26th Winter Universiade Maribor 2013 to successfully carry out the event. It also communicates the support of all of Slovenia for this project.

The slogan is aimed at young people who are ready and willing to take on new challenges. Our common mission is to bring together competitors, spectators and residents of Maribor and Slovenia. With sportsmanship, socialising and ties among young people from all over the world, we build our future.
