On Wednesday, September 6, 2006, bidding partners for the organisation of 25th Winter Universiade Maribor 2011 met at the Slovenian Ministry of Education and Sport.

Besides representatives from the Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) at the meeting there were also the Minister of Education and Sport Mr Milan Zver, the Mayor of University City of Maribor Mr Boris Sovic, the mayor of Ruse Mr Vili Rezman, and the Rector of University of Maribor Mr Ivan Rozman.

The Minister of Education and Sport Mr Milan Zver summarised that the Slovenian diplomacy stands behind the bid and wants to see the Universiade in Slovenia. He also pointed out some of our benefits - mainly high security and the long tradition of winter sports events in Slovenia. For investments a synergy of local, national, and European capital will be used for building new modern sports objects, rebuilding the infrastructure, and investing in the city.

Prof. dr. Otmar Kugovnik, the President of the Slovenian University Sports Association also pointed out one advantage - the proximity of sites - all of the competition venues would be close together.

A special committee was also formed at the meeting which is to supervise the Slovenian candidature for hosting the 25th Winter Universiade, and it will be lead by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Mr Janez Jansa.
