On Monday, October 30, 2006, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Janez Jansa received the representatives of the bidding committee for the Winter Universiade Maribor 2011 who presented progress report of the current preparation and the future plans related to the project.
The Prime Minister expressed his support of the bidding preparation for the Winter Universiade Maribor 2011. According to him, successful execution of the project represents added value not only for Maribor, but for the entire country. He ensured that the Government of the Republic of Slovenia will do everything in their power to support the bid, the election, and the entire project.

It was agreed that the effects of the universiade are to be taken into a wider perspective , as it can contribute to the development breakthrough of the entire region. The support of the government is, therefore, of the highest importance.
The meeting was attended by the President of SUSA prof. dr, Otmar Kugovnik, the Mayor of Maribor Mr Boris Sovic, the Maribor Mayor Candidate Mr Gregor Pivec, the mayor of Ruse Mr Vili Rezman, the Rector of University of Maribor prof. dr. Ivan Rozman, and SUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik.

Apart from the Prime Minister Mr Janez Jansa, the meeting was also attended by the Minister of Education and Sport Mr Milan Zver, and the Minister of Economy Mr Andrej Vizjak.
