The City of Maribor, which is also a candidate to become the European Capital of Culture in the year 2012, hosts every year the Festival Lent, one of the biggest festivals of the kind in Europe. The Festival takes place in July and attracts more than 400 performers with half of million of visitors. |
| The main stage of the festival was a also a place, where Mr. Otmar Kugovnik, the President of the Slovenian University Sports Association and Mr. Boris Sovic, the Mayor of the City of Maribor announced to the spectators the intention of Slovenia to organise the 2011 Winter Universiade. At this occasion, a special gift – the old ski, which represents the long skiing tradition in Slovenia – was given to Mr. Roberto Outeirino and Mr. Eric Saintrond, the representatives of FISU. |
