Delegation of the International University Sports Federation FISU, started with technical meetings and inspection of the venues for the 26th Winter Universiade Maribor 2013.One of the most important events today was the technical meeting, at which the technical capabilities were presented - transport & logistics, accommodation, accreditation center, technical solutions, support and communication, and similar aspects of organising the Winter Universiade in Maribor.

On the first day, the commission members also visited the sights at Rogla, where cross country skiing will take place, and Ruše, which will host curling. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, the delegates were welcomed by the Minister of Defence, Mr Karl Erjavec, who joined the delegation in visiting some of the venues.

The technical inspection and briefing on capacities of organising Universiade in Maribor is very important for the decision of FISU about the organisation of winter student university games in 2013. “This year’s presentation focuses on our expertise and experience,” says Mr Marko Rataj, a member of the Organising Committee. “Even though we are the sole candidate, we have not yet been awarded the Universiade. The final decision will be taken on May 31 in Brussels, where we have the final presentation of the project. Now our attention is focused to the evaluation visit, and to the expert presentation of the candidature.”
In the evening, the delegation and the partners were hosted by the Mayer of Maribor Mr Franc Kangler who greeted them at the City Hall. Tomorrow, the delegates will inspect the competition venues at the Maribor Pohorje, and the Ice Hall Tabor, where they will also watch the training of the national ice hockey team.
