Today came a long expected FISU decision of attributing the 2011 Winter and Summer Universiades.
Throughout the day, the FISU Executive Committee was being presented with the bid for the 2011 Universiades, the order of presentation was decided with a draw.

WINTER UNIVERSIADE 2011 BIDDING CITIES:
Erzurum, Turkey
Maribor, Slovenia

Our bid was presented by a 10-member committee from Slovenia: prof. dr. Otmar Kugovnik, President of the Slovenian University Sports Association, dr. Milan Zver, the Minister of Education and Sport, Franc Kangler, the Mayor of Maribor, prof. dr. Ivan Rozman, the Rector of the University of Maribor, Mr. Janez Kocijančič, the President of the Slovenian Olympic Committee, Ms. Saša Albreht, the President of the Slovenian Student Union, Mrs. Tjaša Andree Prosenc, the President of the Slovenian Skating Federation, and the winner of the 1962 Winter Universiade Villars. The presentation was lead by Mr Matjaž Pečovnik, Secretary General of the Slovenian University Sports Association, and Mr. Marko Rataj, Technical Director of Pohorje Sports Centre.
Especially for this occassion, a group of businessmen, politicians, as well as students and other people came from Maribor to witness the presentation and the official announcement of the host city.

In the evening, with one-hour delay, the decision was finally revealed: the 2011 Winter Universiade was attributed to Erzurum, Turkey while the 2011 Summer Universiade 2011 was attributed to China.
The bidding committee for the 25th Winter Universiade Maribor 2011 would at this point like to thank all our partners and sponsors for their trust and support eventhough our bid was not successful this time.
The games go on, however, as the 23rd Winter Universiade Torino 2007 is officially being opened tomorrow, January 17, 2007.
