Right above the city, rises the Pohorje range, the largest ski centre in Slovenia with over 50 kilometres of skiing slopes, 36 kilometres of cross country paths and the largest night skiing slope of 10 kilometres. The slopes are connected by 4 chairlifts, 16 ski lifts and by gondola. The World Cup in alpine skiing for women – the Golden Fox (Zlata lisica) – takes place here, as well as World Cup in snowboarding and World Cup in telemark skiing. Maribor organised Junior World Championships in alpine skiing and ice hockey as well as World Women Championship in ice hockey.
